BLADE TRINITY - 32% Rotten

  • Posted by: Steve Biodrowski

In a a survey of 34 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, BLADE TRINITY, which opens today, recieved a meagre 32% approval rating, with 11 positive reviews and 23 negative reviews. (The website considers a rating of 60% or greater to be "fresh.")

One should take this with a grain of salt, as horror films tend not to be popular with mainstream critics, but much of the negative commentary comes from web geeks whom one would expect to like the film. More telling, much criticism pinpoints the dubious decision to give Blade a couple of rookie sidekicks in the third movie -- a rather obviously desperate attempt to stire up the old formula.

  • "Blade doesn't need backup, and in BLADE II when he had it, he was happy to feed his backup to the bad guys whenever it suited him."--Joshua Tyler, Cinemablend.com
  • "It's sad to see Wesley Snipes standing around on the sidelines while his franchise is hijacked by a bunch of obnoxious wisecracking white kids."--Sean Burns, Philadelphai Weekly
  • "If Blade himself can't carry a movie with his own name on it, then perhaps the time has come to hang up the stakes for good."==Rob Vaux, Flipside Movie Emporium
  • "Were it not for Wesley Snipes, you would probably think that it was a spin-off."--Craig Roush of Kinnopio's Movie Reviews

Still the film has its defenders. Staci Layne Wilson of Horror.com opines that the film is "damn good fun."
