You wonder what went wrong with BLADE 3? Wesley Snipes has the answer: Despite his star billing and a credit as exeuctive producer, Snipes says the other filmmakers blocked him from creative participation, according to a small article in the New York Times (scroll down to the section headlined "Bad Blood").
According to the article, Snipes is suing New Line for $15-million. Among other things, he complains of racially motivated treatment and blames the reduced screen presence of his character, the juvenile humor, and the inexperience of first-time director David S. Goyer for the film's financial failure.
Considering how badly the film turned out, it's hard not to sympathize with Snipes. Whether he has a case that will stand up in court depends on his contract with New Line. In any case, it certainly looked as if the casting of white co-stars Ryan Reynolds and Jessica Biel was a first-step toward phasing out Blade in favor of a spin-off.
